Derek started in a garage\, but fell in love with the contemporary folk scene traveling between Wisconsin and Minnesota. Recipient of the 2014 Great River Folk Festival's Songwriter award\, Derek is a self-proclaimed hobbyist\, and continues to write new music and incorporate a laid-back storytelling aspect into his performance.
