SUMMARY:Fox River Canal & Houdini Tour with Able Trek Tours
DESCRIPTION:Fox River Canal & Houdini Tour with Able Trek Tours. Cruise the waterway built at the turn of the century to create passage from the Great Lakes to the Mississippi. We'll lock through at the hands of the tender\, just as you would have in the early 1900s. This is possible because the Fox River near DePere\, Wisconsin is fortunate to have one of the last two hand operated locks remaining in the U.S. Learn why it was built\, how it was built\, tour the home of the man who made it happen (Hazelwood Historic Home)\, learn why it failed to be the greatest water highway\, and how the locals saved this piece of history.\n\n\n\nA box lunch is included on the boat. We'll also visit Appleton's History Museum at the Castle. A National Historic Landmark this incredible building houses a history museum with several exhibits including the Houdini Exhibit. Houdini (AKA Ehrich Weiss) lived in Appleton for four years as a child\, and always considered the city to be his hometown. This exhibit takes visitors through his childhood\, early career\, rise to fame\, and legacy with photos\, video\, and artifacts used by the man himself. Moderate walking and managing a few steps will be necessary.\n\n\n\nCOST: $139 / Person (Includes box lunch). Call Able Trek at 608-524-3021 or visit www.abletrektours.com for registration and exact time and locations for pick-up. Sign Up
