Supper Clubs to Super Slides, Dells in the 1960s
Date: August 12, 2025
Time: 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Event Description
It was the era of muscle cars, mom and pop motels, and martinis. The Dells in the 1960s was a happening place. It was the decade that saw Interstate I-90/94 completed which brought more and more tourists to the area. The Strip between Lake Delton and the Lower Dells continued to fill in as new mom and pop motels like the Pleasant View and the Shamrock were built and new attractions like the Super Slide were added.
Many existing businesses also expanded. Popular places like the Del-Bar were enlarged and major new additions like the Totem Tower were added. It was also an era of increased challenges. The decade opened with the state’s largest manhunt after the shooting death of Officer James Jantz.
