Introducing the Starliner, a Starlit Journey on the Rails

On the evening of Saturday, May 16, 2026, Mid-Continent invites you to experience the Starliner, an unforgettable nighttime train journey into the cosmos. This exclusive event is limited to just 60 guests and will take you by rail to a secluded viewing location along the line, far from city lights.
In partnership with the Madison Astronomical Society and guided by UW Space Place co-founder Dr. Jim Lattis, you’ll witness the wonders of the night sky through professional telescopes, including breathtaking views of Venus and Jupiter. While the telescopes are being set up, enjoy a guided tour of the sky, surveying the celestial highlights above.
If the forecast calls for clear weather, the train ride will depart at 9:00 PM, with the presentation and telescope viewing around 9:20 PM. The presentation will wrap up after about an hour, and guests will return from the presentation and the train ride around 11:00 PM!
If the weather doesn’t cooperate, the experience will begin at 9:00 PM in our picnic pavilion with a fascinating astronomy presentation from Dr. Lattis, followed by a train ride departing at 10:00 PM and returning at 11:00 PM!
Reminder that seats are extremely limited, don’t miss your chance to ride the Starliner! Book tickets online here: https://fareharbor.com/embeds/book/midcontinent/items/717555/calendar/2026/05/?full-items=yes&back=https://www.midcontinent.org/&g4=yes
