Date: September 28, 2025 Time: 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Event Description
Music Sunday with Ancora Quartet! Free and Open to the Public!

This event takes place at a very unique historical folk art site containing visionary murals painted by itinerant German folk painter Ernest Hüpeden from 1898-1901.  In the small town of Valton, Wisconsin, an unassuming white frame building is built into the hillside. The treasure lies inside, where the walls and ceiling are covered with intriguing visionary murals created in the late 1890s by the itinerant German painter, Ernest Hüpeden. Based in Madison, Wisconsin, the Ancora String Quartet has been performing together since 2000, when a chance neighborhood connection sparked the formation of the group. Its members—accomplished soloists, chamber musicians, and orchestral performers—hold degrees from leading conservatories and have appeared across the U.S. and Europe. Known for their rich musical partnerships and community presence, the quartet has held a long-standing residency at the First Unitarian Society and gained acclaim from critics and audiences alike.

Over the years, Ancora has marked milestones with themed seasons, international tours, and collaborations with notable musicians. Today, with the addition of violist Sahada Buckley, the group continues to honor the spirit and joy of founding member Marika Fischer Hoyt through their music.
